About Hugues Chatel
Hugues Chatel began his watchmaking studies at an historical watchmaking school in Besancon France. One of his student projects—a skeletonized watch with reverse time indication, a particularly challenging assignment—won a prize in France national competition. He subsequently studied at l’école d’horlogerie and microtechnique in La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland, graduated with a master watchmaker diploma and completed an apprenticeship at the Musée International d’Horlogerie of clock restorations. In 1984, Hugues traveled to the U. S. and settled in Marin County, California, where he went to work in a small clock restoration shop. Several years later, after moving to Carmel, Hugues opened his own watch and clock restoration workshop, where he took up working on watches which had always been his real passion. In 1993, Chatel began watch retail business carrying Jaeger-LeCoultre watches and in 1997, Chatel became one of the first Panerai authorized dealer in the U. S..
Chatel is located on Lincoln Street between Ocean and 7th Avenues, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.
